#Fedora 42 #Cinnamon: Today a fresh install not an upgrade from 41 on my ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 is working well with some extra improvements and some new quirks that could be circumvented or solved so far. Thank you @fedora for the good work. Well done!
BTW: The backup of /home took hours, but the recovery was done in approx. 30 mins.

Hmm, Linux #Mint scheint auf dem #MacBook nicht die beste Lösung zu sein.
Ich hatte jetzt schon mehrfache Crashes von #Cinnamon und auch die Netzwerkverbindung stirbt immer mal wieder und lässt sich wohl nur durch einen Neustart wiederbeleben.

Liegt das an Mint oder ist der #Debian-Unterbau das Problem?

Das neue #LinuxMint 22.1 "Xia" setzt auf Ubuntu 24.04. Die wohl sichtbarste Neuerung ist der #Cinnamon-Desktop in Version 6.4. Außerdem gibts drei verschiedene Modi, je nachdem, ob man eher Energie sparen oder Leistung rauskitzeln will.

Okay, I don't know if this is a #GTK thing, a #Gnome thing, a #LibreOffice thing, or a #Cinnamon thing, but I just discovered probably the most user-hostile "helpful" behaviour I've seen in a piece of #software in a long, long time.

The find-and-replace dialog in the LibreOffice #spreadsheet - I haven't checked the remainder of the apps - has the typical buttons for "Find All", "Find Previous", "Find Next", "Replace", and "Replace All".

... and no obvious keyboard shortcuts for them. Nothing shown, no #affordances, no typical underlined or bolded letter in each button's label text. Doing a large amount of selective search&replace (don't ask #Etsy cough cough) is incredibly painful. There's *got* to be #keyboard #shortcuts, right?

Here's the #evil: the shortcut keys are not indicated *until you hold down the alt key*. Then it underlines the appropriate letter in each button's label, but those underlines disappear again when you release the alt key.

So you can study this bloody dialog box until the cows come home and never see a hint of a keyboard shortcut, even though it has them.

My husband, @jbqueru requires saved sessions for his multiple dev apps under Linux. We found that NONE of the DEs are saving sessions *properly*. #Gnome & #Cinnamon don't at all, #Mate has bugs, #XFce only saves its own apps, and #KDE only saves 1 workspace, with no positioning, and only when saving the session manually. #Wayland or #X11, same abysmal behavior.

You might hate on #MacOS, but that's one thing it does well.
