If she encountered some issue, would she be able to find someone, other than you, who could fix it? That unfortunately rules out a bunch of messengers.I think best option is to use the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/@mollyim" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@mollyim</a> client for Signal. Martin ThorntonI know <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Signal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Signal</a> has been recommended as the main alternative to <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Whatsapp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Whatsapp</a> for <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/GlobalSwitchDay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#GlobalSwitchDay</a>, but given that it's centralised & tied to your phone number (and also won't let you migrate your chat history between platforms), I'd recommend <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SimpleX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SimpleX</a> as a worthy alternative without those downsides.
