Chickasaw plums are blooming. Took some pics with a loupe. Think this one turned out kinda dreamy.
Prunus angustifolia
No matter how we got here,
We find our self's in the occupied territories of turtle island. And despite the proclamations of the enlightened empire, we each have a choice to make. Do the work of colonialism, or act like we live here.
Guys, the famous 31-year old temperate food forest / forest garden at Dartington in Devon, UK is under threat. Please see the link for details and consider signing the petition to save it.

After spending the better part of 1/2 a decade studying planting and especially permaculture in northern Arizona, I recently found out about and emailed the AZU Extension program master gardners. They replied within an hour on a day they weren't officially in the office. Their first email had everything I already knew plus about 20-30% more than I had learned on my own. Their second included a list of plants which are more and less fire resistant and guidance for keeping the land safe in case of a fire, along with planting guidelines.
Seriously, if you are at all interested in #permaculture reach out to your local extension office. I was just blown away by the knowledge and wisdom they have to share for free!
Using technology to combine #web3 and #permaculture to mend our current #food system and governance woes.

I am always impressed with the ability of the #fedi to provide answers. So here goes…
I need a bunch of grow tubes. But holy smokes, they are expensive unless you place an insanely large order.
Anyone know of a buyer’s union, or co-op situation? Here’s an example of pricing disparities . Prices are per 10-pack.
Egads. Just saw a #permaculture recommendation of brown mustard in burn scars to remediate lead and other heavy metals.
Please don’t plant any variety of mustard in burn scars. It’s a very invasive plant that will result in vast fields of an annual that dries out by late summer leaving flashy fuels tall enough to ladder a grass fire into a canopy fire.
Mustard seeds scattered by Spanish colonizers so they could retrace their steps is a significant reason why some SoCal landscapes have changed from chaparral that burns every decade or two to grasslands that can burn every year

Depuis 3 ans, je cultive en ville, sur mon toit et partout où cela est possible. C'est vital pour moi.
Ce matin, j'ai découvert les choux toscan, brocoli, fraisiers, résistants du froid, prêts pour une nouvelle saison.

The exponential nature of #seeds cannot be over-emphasized. This is a Kabocha squash we grew over last Summer and Autumn. This single squash yielded 242 #seeds and produced enough #food to feed 4 adults and 2 children as a Squash Curry when combined with rice. If we grow #localized #food systems, #food scarcity is a far-flung myth. May #permaculture save the day.
Working on a pair of #compost crocks (among other things) to hopefully be fired by the end of the month. We’ve outgrown our old one so one of these will be the replacement. They each hold somewhere around a gallon/4L. The double handles make them easy to carry & dump, and the lids fit snuggly. They’re sturdy pieces of functional ware, which also serve as decorative objects when not in use. I’m excited to see them glazed. #beautility #functionalpottery #gardening #permaculture #ceramics #pottery
We use GPT4o, in our day to day work and I am happy to see some in our #permaculture world opening up their perspective on #AI. Then there's this..."Of course, some concessions have to be made to get an LLM running on underpowered hardware. In this case, the computer of choice is an ESP32".

We have grown large amounts of #food via #permaculture methods for over 11 years with no use of pesticides. "The review identified adverse consequences for more than 800 species, ranging from microbial life to larger vertebrates. Researchers documented how these chemicals compromise key biological functions, such as growth rates."

Dandelions

Yeah, I’m exploiting a butterfly pic bc dandelions can’t get no love by themselves. (Eurytides marcellus, Zebra swallowtail) #butterfly #insects
Also, for those who harvest rainwater, it’s exciting to be able to deliver that water directly to plant roots in an efficient way. #permaculture
