🧵 #OTD the #Titanic sank in 1912. When I was a very small child, I knew an old woman who narrowly escaped this disaster. As the governess of a US millionaire's children, she was supposed to be travelling on the Titanic. They arrived too late in England and couldn't get tickets.

Shortly before her death, she gave me some old #yarn. I haven't dared to use it to this day because it's like travelling back in #deepTime. 113 years can feel so near.

A historic ad for Royal Society Sweater Twist with a photo of the yarn and a women, typically dressed like in the late 1910s. Royal Society was famous for the first "artificial silk" threads, made from Viscose/Rayon. In 1894, viscose was patented in the UK, produced since 1905, the USA followed in 1910. The "more glossy than silk" yarn was the biggest trend at the time of the Titanic.

Night view of Amanita muscaria II

It’s always a tough choice: night or day first? If I post only the night image, a lot of details get lost. You can barely see the white spots on the mushroom top. But if I post just the day image, you miss out on the lamp’s glow and how it lights up at night. Sometimes I share both, but I find that posting one image at a time works best. Maybe there’s no perfect answer to this.

My latest project has grown weary of me asking what it wants to be. "I am what I am. Why isn't that enough for you?" Alrighty then. It will be what it is: a scattered rainbow. I call it that because I select my thread color and order by singing the Rainbow Song: "red and yellow and pink and green..." 😊🌈 #Embroidery

🧵 For all who like to see my #scrollBook project in progress, I start a thread for new photos.
The idea: Having art small enough for a handbag or hanged on a wall. 'Writing' a #book that can't get copied by AI or people - but can be inspiring for others.
Materials: A vintage wooden bobbin, tea-dyed coton flannel, #teaBags, #sareeSilk scraps, #lace, #embroidery, glass rocailles.

Part of my scrollbook with a needle and yellowish green thread. On a background of bright purple flannel a collage of small white lace, a square of a used teabag and scraps of saree silk. The spuares and rectangles are laid in a collage composition and get fixed with wild, wobbly stitches. One silk scrap in rosé has a beautiful dark lilac and red ornamental print.

A little late for #WIPWednesday, but time flies anyway. I mounted these today - six little moss embroidery pieces. Now they’re just waiting to be finished with electronics and a few extra stitches here and there where the shape doesn’t quite follow the mounts. One also needs some extra colors.

Three of these are sold (top right, middle, most right); the rest will be in my shop soon - unless someone claims them in a message first.
