Your mileage may vary.Separate underscores with spaces in poll toots. If the answer is SPOCK, use _ _ O _ _, not __O__. The latter isn’t even clear how many spaces it is or exactly where the O is. Note that some UIs, like the <a href="https://c.im/tags/Trunks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Trunks</a> app, interpret single underscores as Markdown separators & just remove them, giving you boldface blank space. I guess just don’t use Trunks with these puzzles unless you can disable the Markdown interpolation or something. That’s the only UI I’m aware of that doesn’t display them properly. I also use the standard Mastodon for iOS app, but I almost always use the web on my laptop to post the puzzles. That is the least common denominator UI. It’s best to make sure the puzzle is clear there.There’s also no law against separating the puzzle blanks across multiple lines for clarity. A lot of hosts use slashes (/) to separate words for additional clarity.2/
