You'll recall the case of the Polish women denied the right to remain in the UK because she filled out the wrong (an online version rather than a paper form), well now the Home Office has relented.

Interestingly, the Home Office (no doubt instructed to be more business like) now seems to respond well to cases that are high-lighted by the media... just like commercial firms responding to consumer page complaints!

If only they could just be humane!

I don’t greatly like that the BBC have made me agree with Kemi Badenoch about something, but she’s absolutely correct to say that…

…policy making should not be a matter of responding to populist “gut feels” inspired by cinema or television.

Aside from anything else: back in the 1980s this was how we got so many terrible computer misuse laws & unjust trials, because of WarGames.

In … 2013, a high court judge struck out Belhadj’s case against the British government, on the grounds that if it were allowed to proceed it could potentially damage British national interests. At [a] Tribunal in January 2014, his lawyers said they had reason to suspect that GCHQ had been intercepting their phone calls with Libya-based Belhadj, and noted: “The right to confidential client-lawyer communication is a fundamental principle of justice.” This later turned out to be the case, and but one case of many.

A judge has sided with a coalition of civil liberties groups and news organisations – including the BBC – and ruled a legal row between the UK government and Apple over data privacy cannot be held in secret.

The eVisa scheme (UK) replaces physical documents with online proof of immigration status.

But technical and adminstrative problems mean that many people can't create or access the eVisa when they need it.

Thousands are currently having to rely on expired documents to prove their right to be in the UK.

This could easily be extended to all migrants that have the right to remain in the UK.

Travellers stranded at airports, refugees unable to rent a home or get a job, and a man being made homeless – these are some of the horror stories we have heard since the Home Office’s eVisa scheme came into effect.

Der #Krieg in der #Ukraine kommt langsam wieder näher… gestern hat der Angriff auf #Dnipro nicht nur mindestens 4 Zivilisten getötet, viele verletzt, sondern für uns auch einen Ort mit vielen Erinnerungen zerstört. In einer Stadt, die bislang relativ wenig von Zerstörungen betroffen war. Der Hotel- und Restaurantkomplex #Bartolomeo direkt am Fluss #Dnipro gelegen, nur 5-10 Minuten Fußweg vom früheren Arbeitsplatz meiner Frau entfernt. Von hier aus habe ich damals öfters „#Homeoffice“ gemacht./2
