Crater Lake Oregon A Deep Blue Wonder of Nature Right in the heart of southern Oregon's Cascade Mountains, Crater Lake is a breathtaking natural marvel, known for its intense sapphire-blue waters, remarkable clarity, and dramatic geological history. Formed over 7,000 years ago by the collapse of the ancient Mount Mazama volcano, this deep caldera lake is the deepest lake in the United States, plunging to a depth of 1,943 feet (592 meters). Surrounded by towering cliffs that rise up to 2,000 feet above the lake's surface, Crater Lake lies within Crater Lake National Park, a protected wilderness rich with forests, volcanic rock formations, and diverse wildlife. The lake itself has no rivers flowing in or out; instead, it is fed entirely by rain and snow, which contributes to its stunning purity and color. Wizard Island, a cinder cone that emerged after the initial eruption, rises from the western side of the lake, resembling a miniature volcanic island. But then again, it was not a landscape that you wanted to spend little time in. It invited -- nay, demanded, in a friendly, open fashion -- you to linger.

As I approached the summit earlier this week, the trail steepened to the point that “ladders” (stairs) were installed to help hikers. However, the ladders (see pic from a previous summer) were completely covered with #snow and #ice making for a challenge in the ascent/descent. After starting with microspikes, I then put on full crampons to get down safely. #FootpathFriday #hiking #winter

Winter Beauty Yosemite National Park Tunnel View snowstorm swept through the valley, dressing the granite giants in a delicate veil of white. From Tunnel View, the world opened like a dream—El Capitan standing watchful to the left, Bridalveil Fall flowing like silver lace to the right, and Half Dome rising distant and proud, crowned in snow. The usual bustle of the park had vanished; I was alone with the wild. Clouds drifted like whispers through the trees, and the air was thick with the scent of pine and snow. In that sacred stillness, time seemed to pause. The storm had carved out a moment just for me—a fleeting, holy silence in one of nature’s grandest cathedrals.
