Everything on this #Piefed community does not originate from Piefed:

https://piefed.social/c/lumoura

It originates from #Akkoma or #Pixelfed. Specifically, I’m sending posts that originate from @atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org and @atomicpoet@pixelfed.social to @lumoura@piefed.social.

Now why would I do this? Because I want to:

  1. create photo streams around a unique aesthetic
  2. de-couple certain content away from my personal accounts
  3. allow people to experience that content through different social media lenses

Yes, I believe this is a very big deal—which is why I talk so much about it.

piefed.socialLumouraAn arts and culture aesthetic that has a certain unexplainable mood.

I’ve created four new #Piefed photo-based communities. They are:

  1. @recordpics
  2. @dustbloom
  3. @lumoura
  4. @blue

I’ll mostly be using these communities to post photos from #Akkoma and #Pixelfed. Not only will they categorize these photos in a coherent manner, they’ll be open for other contributors, and also be easy to moderate.

Why not use hashtags instead? Simple: anyone can use a hashtag and no one can moderate them. Which means they’re easy to spam.

For my purposes, groups are simply better.

Nope, mentioning a #Lemmy group actor like @pcgaming@lemmy.ca does not result in my post appearing in that Lemmy community.

Other people have said that it’s possible to post to Lemmy from a microblogging platform, but every time I’ve tried, I haven’t been able to get it to happen.

So I may have to duplicate several Lemmy communities in #Piefed simply because it plays better with microblogging platforms like #Mastodon and #Akkoma.

RE: https://atomicpoet.org/objects/c76d141f-be15-4821-9ed0-2e88e56b43f5

Confirmed. You can post from a microblogging platform (e.g., #Mastodon, #Akkoma, etc.) to #Piefed simply by mentioning the group actor in your post.

Piefed sticks a [Microblog] descriptor in the title so that #Lemmy, #Mbin, and Piefed readers know that the post originated from a microblog.

To use this feature, you need to use @ for the mention instead of !. For example @community@exampleserver.com.

This is yet another reason I’ll be using Piefed to create communities.

So it seems to me that, for posting purposes, #Piefed is much friendlier to #Mastodon and #Akkoma than #Mbin is.

When you look up a Piefed post on microblogging platforms, it returns a link to the post as well as the body:

https://piefed.social/post/488492

But when you look up an Mbin post, it repeats the title twice and does not display the body:

https://kbin.earth/m/pcgaming@lemmy.ca/t/947755/Steam-s-best-rated-games-of-2024-aren-t-what-you-d-expect

For this reason, I’ll be posting from piefed.social simply because I want my posts to be readable on microblogging platforms. To be sure, this is not a slam against Mbin. I acknowledge it’s a work in progress. But I have to use the platform that works for my purposes.

#Mastodon is being more blatant—it will add quote posts.

This will piss some people off but frankly, this has been in the works for years.

To those who believe quote posts are abusive, there is no data whatsoever that shows any correlation between quote posts and abuse.

And actually, platforms like #Misskey, #Akkoma, and #Friendica have had that feature for years, and hardly anyone using those platforms has ever complained.

In fact, I use quote posts every day. No one’s complained to me about my use of quote posts.

Nevertheless, Mastodon is doing the right thing—and it takes serious courage to tell the Fedi Gatekeepers that this will happen. There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth. But it’s a change that needed to happen.

> "Habe leider (noch) keine eigene Plattform, freue mich aber alle, die wissen und helfen könnten, ein neues medienkritisches Angebot als Website aufzusetzen,
@coastgnu@norden.social"

Discovering the #fediverse gives me the same feelings #linux did years ago. The endless choice, excitement of discovery, clash of philosophies and a community.

I spent years #distrohopping from #ubuntu , #arch , #voidlinux , #nixos etc and then back to arch. Also spent a long time switching desktop environments and window managers like i3.

I started on #lemmy and #mastodon . What do I try next? #selfhost an #activitypub server? Which one?

I have looked everywhere, but I can't find this post from 11 February! It isn't showing up in my Sent timeline. So if it is on my profile, and/or if you have seen it, I apologise.

I am not closing my account here, but I need to try something other than Friendica, due to accessibility issues. I am considering Akkoma, but am open to other networks if they are compatible with Mastodon.

I am seeking an instance with the following specifications.

Accessible interface (I use a screen reader called NVDA). If it uses Semantic html and isn't cluttered, that's a great start. I would prefer it to be compatible with Mastodon so that I could also use TweeseCake as a client. I need to easily be able to access things such as notifications, follow requests, my own posts, to be able to search for tags, people, my posts etc.

Posting limit of 5,000 characters or more (more preferred.

Ability to pin, unpin, edit, and delete posts.

Ability to filter content, so that I don't see certain words or phrases. (This doesn't work with TweeseCake, so it's not as important as the rest, unless the site is so accessible that I can use it often.)

Ability to select between seeing all posts of someone or only some, and to choose whether to let someone follow me without my seeing his posts or to follow him completely. (Friend versus Subscriber on Friendica).

Extensive profile with keywords. (Keywords may be a Friendica feature, so can be skipped.)

Most people write in English and are not politically, technologically, or gaming obsessed. No radicals of any pursuasion. (the English bit is just to help me find friends on my particular instance.)

Free speech (nothing illegal or homophobic). I personally avoid obscenities.)

If such an instance exists, please tell me. I found https://akkoma.fediverse.observer/list[7] but that's just a list with no real information about each instance. I would have to go through over 400 of them, choose the ones from the UK, Canada, and America (they're the most likely to have English instances), then go through those to see if they meet my requirements, but that's ridiculous.

I am not a programmer, so please don't suggest I start my own instance or join a network that is not set up with a webpage and/or to accept a client, as I know nothing about these things other than that they run on Linux and I'm a Windows user. I just want something that works. Also, if there are any demonstration instances, please let me know. I heard of one where accounts only lasted five days, but it seems to be gone.
