Quick question - what media shows someone (male or female, young or old) who is shown to be both very smart and NOT weird or funny or odd?

It’s been a trope since Sherlock Holmes the eccentric genius.

But can you think of examples where expertise and smarts and skill aren’t paired with being odd and weird and social awkward?

(Consider if you are a creative that media that celebrates skill and intelligence without pairing it with oddness might be missing at least here in the US)

@Rycaut Doogie Houser? MacGyver? Various Star Trek characters, especially the female ones.

@newstik which star trek characters? (I haven’t seen the more recent series as I’ve barely watched TV in the past decade). I’d argue that Vulcans are almost archetypical of the “smart but weird/robotic/unemotional” trope.

And Doogie Houser now is eh vintage or at least retro.

MacGyver maybe a good example (though even the newer remake is now pretty old)

Perhaps some reality shows like Queer Eye or others that highlight experts doing their thing over manufactured drama

@Rycaut Most regular car Star Trek characters are very smart. Deduct the comedic/weird ones, and you got what you're loooking for. :-) As I said, especially the female ones, because with the male ones there is, in my impression, a higher prevalence of comedic or awkward. (My impression, I haven't made a statistical analysis.)
