Two weeks later, time for a little update: As a source, hasn't remained as big as for @heiseonline, but it constantly beats now. (where we stopped posting) is behind. But what's interesting 👇🏻

If you look at the distribution of the traffic, the Top20 of the articles take a different chunk. So, for example, from the biggest article brought half of the traffic, from the whole Top20 brings about 20 %.

That's a different Top20 for every network, and it's the sum of the past 14 days.

@mho
So, that's probably the difference of an existing / not exisiting algorithm, that pushes popular topics even further or am I wrong with this interpretation? 🤔

@ingonymous

No, that would be my explanation, too.

@ingonymous @mho

I'm thinking that, if Heise does not publish their articles on Xitter, then the only reason traffic would come from there is if someone else tweets a link. It makes sense that this could act as a funnel on its own. Of course an engagement-optimising algorithm can exacerbate this.

Constrast with every article being posted to mastodon which gives equal exposure to every article, and people would mainly see these if they follow the Heise account directly (disregarding boosts).

@plc @ingonymous

Exactly. To add to this, the big article in Twitter is several years old 😅

fyi We're also posting every article to &

@mho interesting how Xitter is the one with the lowest traffic. Looks like most of the "Users" on there aren't interested in visiting external links.

I would love to see a real survey on how many users on Xitter are actually AI Bots.

@Arsimael

It's the only one, where we're not posting.

@mho what do you mean by "not posting", does heise actually not posting any content there? I thought at least the article summary like the ones here on mastodon are posted there.

@mho That color scheme is pretty much indistinguishable on my display.
