Is Mastodon abandoning the policy on noreferrer?
Remember the discussion here on #Mastodon about forcing a NoReferrer on all links from some days ago?
Today I suddenly found mastodon.social as traffic source and would you look at that: The same link over there hasn't got the NoReferrer but on our own instance it still has it.
Did I miss something? Is this deliberate?
@mho @Edent @Gargron A new feature has been added (https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/33214 + https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/33239) so admins have a way to change the Referer policy on their instance. This can only be updated form the console right now, but we may add a setting for it.
Enabling this has privacy implications (logs can show someone from your instance clicked on the link, which can be identifying on small instances) so we do not recommend enabling it on every instance, but we did it for m.s & m.o.
Thanks!
