This does sound right, and for #Mastodon, #Threads and #Bluesky it would mean, that they don't need to be connected fully.
If the top 10% posting on #Threads and #Bluesky federate/bridge, you can basically get all the content on #Mastodon & #Fediverse.
Maybe with a certain follower number you could get bridged auomatically, @snarfed.org? Could be a middle ground between all opt-in vs. all opt-out?
@mho I listened to this episode yesterday and one thing that stuck out was one of the hosts saying (cliffs notes version) that the only social media platform where you can move your data is #Bluesky. That is not true! My previous Mastodon instance gave notice that they would be shutting down. I was able to both download all of my data from the original instance for my records AND automatically transfer my data to my new (current) instance without me losing anything.
