It finally works!
Here is a table of more than 1000 journalists on #Mastodon, that updates itself – showing the ones most active, most followed etc. I took the wonderful table by @tchambers as foundation, but deleted some media organizations, so that it only contains accounts from people.
I want to make another for media accounts (and maybe even more ).
Have a look!
Well, let's see if it breaks this time
I hope, that some will find this helpful. But to be honest, I am a bit embarrassed, at how I got this to work: I'm using the account @JournalistsOnMastodon@mastodon.social: It follows (or better tries to follow) this accounts:
https://github.com/fingolas23/JournalistsOnMastodon/blob/main/accounts.csv
A modified version of this script (https://blog.tomaszdunia.pl/mastodon-api-followers-following-eng/) by @to3k then regularly creates a table, containing the details of all the accounts. #GoogleSheets grabs this and creates two versions of the table.
Please (!!) refrain from telling me how wrong it is to use #Google: I'm doing this with the tools I'm able to use and I'm doing this in my free time (of which there is not so much with two wonderful little boys).
If someone can do a better job, please be my guest! Build it, I will share it.
After showing my first attempts last year, I got so much flag for using Google but only one offer to help – thx for that btw.
@mho Appreciate the work - a great resource. Personally I don't have time to copy and set up an #ungoogled alternative. Maybe someone will. Nevertheless it's a fair comment that use of Google is problematic - I've been gradually #degoogling my own digital usage - not quite there yet.
@mho that’s the spirit :) at work I am also always telling people: hey, take it and be happy. If you don’t like it or want to improve it, be my guest but don’t bitch about stuff you get for free
